Cassie took one quick glance around the barn, it was sunset, her parents were gone out for the night on a job to help a family with a horse a few towns away. Being home alone was a blessing for Cassie, she didn't have to lie when she needed or wanted to leave. I just have to think. Cassie told herself mentally as she pulled off her overalls and the slightly large shirt that covered her, leaving her in a pair of shorts and a tank top. Not her most comfortable clothing but it worked.
Cassie closed her eyes, pictured the wolf inside her, and slowly felt its form become hers. It went quicker than new morphs did. Bones moved, organs changed, but it was done as fast as it usually was for the girl. When she opened her eyes, she was half the height she had been, had four legs, and amazing nose and eyes. If anyone had been watching they probably would have sworn that the wolf had just smiled. She loved this form, but usually she had to use it in fights.
Taking a large intake of air though her nose, Cassie took off. Her feet pounding through the grass as the left her home behind. The reasoning was that she needed to think, part of her did. After David...she had a lot to think about. She had openly been the one who had been there for David when he first became an Animorph. She had been the one to try and help him. Though, that was until he turned traitor, and even then Cassie tried to be understanding. Part of her wondered if she still would be more understanding if the things David did to Jake and how he had thought and told everyone Tobias was dead.
It was one thing to be the new guy and not fit in, but it was another to kill an innocent bird, and attempt to kill someone Cassie cared about more than she thought possible at times. As her thoughts moved, Cassie ran, it wasn’t hard and it wasn’t very tiring. The wolves legs were used to this, running, injoying the out doors. Being a wolf. That was what this body was made for, and Cassie loved the part about running and feeling free.
<Free...> Cassie said in her mind. He wasn’t free anymore, last time Cassie had seen the guy was when she herself saw him in rodent form...when he was stuck as that animal. It hurt part of her that it had been her idea but then part of her was happy it had. That guy had gotten close to taking away people who were important to her. Jake was her Jake. Tobias...well she had grown closer to him since this all had started, he was one of the few sometimes that saw life like she did. She kept running for about thirty minutes, her internal clock ticking off the minutes as they went by. After the thirty minutes passed she noticed the sun was almost gone, with a small wolfy smile, Cassie slowed to a stop and noticed she was in a small clearing.
Cassie could have set there, thinking to herself for the remaining hour and ten minutes, leaving a good twenty minutes to make sure she was out of morph on time. But she had tuned out her mind speaking and hadn’t been listening. When a stick cracked behind her, Cassie jumped up, her tail up and teeth starting to show under her lips. The wind suddenly blew towards her, bringing the scent to her nose. She opened her mind and sat back down on her butt, tail comfortably sitting too. <Did you follow me? Or are you just out here already?

Marco had been out enjoying a leisurely stroll. He had been out to the cemetary, actually, with his father. Sure, Marco knew that his mother still lived, if you could call being a yeerk slave living, but he couldn't tell his father that. A soft breeze brushed against his skin, and he closed his eyes. He had seperated from his dad, using the excuse of going to Jake's house. And he might actually end up there eventually. But for now, he just wanted to walk. Walk, and think. His mind, like he expected the rest of his friend's minds to be, was on David, and this new girl they who had discovered their secret. But added to his burden was his mother, Eva...Visser One. Someday, Mom... He thought to himself, running a hand through his hair.
That was when he spotted a large dog in the distance. No...too large to be any ordinary dog. And he had been in that form enough times to know it was a wolf. But what was a wolf doing in this clearing? It was the edge of the woods, too near civilization for any normal wolf, "Man, I'm going to regret this if it's not one of them..." He muttered to himself as he began to approach the wolf. Wild thought were running through his head. Would Visser Three aquire a wolf just to try and lure out the so called Andalite bandits? What if someone happened by and saw him talking to a wolf? He looked around, figuring he was far enough from the town to be safe, even if it was too close for wild wolves to roam. He didn't even notice he had stepped on the twig until the creature turned on him, snarling.
Hearing the thought-speak, he put on a grin, holding out his hands in an effort to push aside her worries, "Calm down, nature girl. It's me." As for her question, he offered a shrug, "I was out with Dad and I figured I'd go for a walk. You know, Jake would be pretty upset if he knew you were morphing for fun." He smirked at her, then gave a playful wink, "I won't tell, though. Wouldn't want to ruin young love!"

Calm down nature girl. It’s me. Cassie raised her wolffy eyebrow at Marco and felt herself laugh softly in her thoughts. When he answered her question she glanced at him. After tilting her head to the side for a few seconds she suddenly noticed where she was. Out of the corner of the trees she noticed headstone after headstone. Wow...I did run pretty far from home. She turned her gaze back to her comrade and nodded. If he was near the graveyard that meant he was probably visiting his mom. Though she didn’t let her thoughts escape to him as she felt sympathy. She had guessed that Marco wasn’t one to want a lot of sympathy for his mom...but then again he might. Truthfully he was somewhat of a friend, and was a comrade to her, someone she cared about but didn’t know very well.
As for the second part. That actually made her laugh and feel bad at the same time. You know Jake would be pretty upset if he knew you were morphing for fun. Marco said and smirked and winked playfully. I won’t tell though. Wouldn’t want to ruin young love. If she hadn’t been a wolf at that last moment she would have guessed that she would have blushed, but luckily since the fur...no one would know. <Marco...I think he might understand actually. But it’s my issue I guess.> Cassie thought and sighed shaking her head, enjoying the feeling of fur moving in the soft breeze. If anything she felt more at home sometimes as a wolf, but Marco had it close to right, besides if someone saw him talking to a wolf it would be bad.
She sniffed the air and glanced around, making sure no one else was near before she mentally thought of her own self. Instantly the changes happened, and just as quickly as before Cassie was herself again. The world wasn’t as clear, the smells not as easy to identify, or the wonderous feel of being able to run and leap all day. Now it wont look like your some person asking to get hurt by an innocent wolf. Cassie said and smiled softly. It was made her feel weird as her mind went to maybe talking about this new girl and how weird it was that she was coming right after what happened to David.
She kept her mouth closed for a few seconds before sighing. Is it just me...or do you think it’s weird that she showed up...so close to the same thing that happened to David? Cassie said and kept her gaze off at a tree where a squirl was sitting. I had to think...its just really weird, I acted nice to her and I will be, I’m just worried something may happen and we might actually lose someone this time.

The self proclaimed comedian of the Animorphs was glad that he had earned a laugh from Cassie. They could all probably use a bit of laughter given recent happenings. He didn't really know his team mate too well, even after having worked with her for what seemed like ages. He knew she was sensitive, maybe too much so. He knew she cared alot about Jake, and that Jake cared alot about her. He knew Cassie loved animals, that she was good at reading people (a trait which sometimes served as an annoyance,) and that she was probably one of the best assets to have when trying to figure out what new morph to aquire. But what did he really know about her thoughts and feelings? Only that she probably hated killing and everything else involved with war. Bringing himself out of such sappy thoughts, the dark haired boy shifted his gaze skyward, squinting against the sun. As for his own thoughts and feeling, at least the ones she was worried about, he didn't want anyones sympathy. What good would that do? He just needed to win this war and get his mother back.
"You're right, he probably would understand." He knew his friend well enough to know that sometimes eve Jake broke the rules, and that if there was anyone he would let get away with it, it was probably Cassie. Besides, they had all been through alot of stress lately, and going for a run as a wolf was a good way to forget it for a little while, "If you really want to forget your problems though, He mused aloud, "Dog is the way to go. I mean, wolve's are awesome...but a dog is like the dolphin of the land! All they want to do is play! He offered her a grin, despite the fact that he was partly serious. Morphing dolphin or dog was an amazing way to leave your problems all behind.
At her joke, at least he thought is was a joke, partly anyway, he let out a laugh, "That's me, always provoking innocent animals.
He was surprised when the other brought up Logan. It wasn't that he hadn't been thinking the girl was on Cassie's mind. He had been certain, in fact, that their newest recruit was on everyone's mind. He just wasn't expecting to have it brought up. He offered a shrug, "Yeah, it's pretty strange..." He let his gaze drift back to the girl who stood before him as she fretted over losing someone, "Finally, someone has some sanity. I've been saying since this whole thing began, our luck can only hold so long. It just turns out we've got as much to worry about from turncoats as from the Yeerks. I think when we get the chance, we need to have a meeting, no Logan, just the six of us. We need some plan in case things go wrong."
