Marco sat on a bale of hey in the corner of the barn, a scrutinizing gaze was upon their newest addition. Much like with David, they'd had little choice in the matter of making her a member of their team. She knew too much, and the Yeerks had their eyes on her. But would she rebel as the now-rat had? It was hard to say. He breathed a sigh and shook his head, looking to his best friend, "So, what do we do with her, oh fearless leader?"
From the rafters the fluttering of feathers was heard as Tobias resituated himseld, his sharp hawks gaze was also focused on Logan, seeming to stare right through the girl. A bird's expression was hard to read, especially that of a raptor. He seemed stuck in a constant glare, and the expression seemed to match his mood as he let out the bitter thought-speak words, <She's one of us now...I guess.>
Ax stood in his natural form near the stalls that held the horses, <Yes, it would seem so...but can she be trusted?>
The Andalite's tail blade twitched in aggitation as his main eyes remained ever focused on the girl, his stalks shifting to peer at the other members of the group as he spoke to them, <Let us not forget what we just went through.>
Cassie looked down, sighing softly, "It's not like we have much of a choice. Besides, she seems sincere."
With that the overall clad girl made her way to the back room, retrieving an already dead mouse, and moving toward a cage which held a terrible reminder of their latest ordeal, a golden eagle. The first creature, the same bird in fact, that David had aquired. She pulled on thick leather gloves, opened the cage, offered the mouse to the injured raptor. Afterall, the bird wasn't David, so she had no reason to hate it.

cause the last time you saw meis still burned in the back of your mind------------------------------ you gave me roses and i left them there to die
Logan easily felt the glare, but ignored it the best that she could. Despite the fact that she was ignoring it, she could feel her hands curling into fists as she sat on the bale of hay, her small red clad feet dangling in the air. She looked at the rat that was currently being eaten by the golden hawk and felt the urge to save it. but she couldn't. She had to remain calm. Or she could be attacked and possibly killed. Remain calm, Logan. But remember, whatever happens, happens. She say there, looking at the ground as they talked about her. Didn't they know that she was there listening? didn't they know that she wasn't going to betray people that saved her. Well...they didn't save her, but they got her out of a situation that could have killed her. she was grateful towards them. She eyed the blonde and her eyes narrowed. she was the model of everyone that had made fun of her in school. but somehow, she had a feeling that she wouldn't be made fun. Not here at least. Jake honestly didn't know what to do with her. she was one of them, yes, but not really one of them. After all, they couldn't have another David. He glanced at Marco and spoke,"she needs somewhere to stay...somewhere safe. After all, they are looking for her. But, with her staying with one of us it means more danger." Was anyone willing to risk themselves even more? After all, they have already been through so much.
Rachel sighed and shook her head. she already had so many people in her house and Jake's brother was a human-Controller. Tobias was a no go, and Ax...well that would be just weird. She looked at Marco and then Cassie, "Its up to Cassie and Marco..."

Marco let out a laugh, "Her, stay with me? I can just picture my dad's reaction to that." He rolled his eyes, picking a piece of straw from the bale he sat upon, his gaze shifting to the sensitive one in the group, "Looks like it's up to you, Cassie." He really couldn't have a girl staying with him, afterall. It wouldn't work.
Cassie shook her head, "She might be able to stay in the loft, unless dad needs stuff from up there. I don't know...Marco, your dad tends to stay out of your room, right?" She bit her lip, and looked at their newest recruit, addressing her directly for the first time since she'd arrived at the barn, "What do you think? You could stay in the barn here, or maybe with Marco...but you can't go back home, I'm sorry."
Tobias could relate to Logan's plight. Not that he'd had much of a home to go back to, but being stuck as a hawn meant he couldn't go back even if he'd wanted to. He looked at the girl they had taken into their ranks, <School's out too. You're living a life on the run now.>
Marco put on his best gangster voice, smirking all the while, "You're on the lamb, ya see."
<I do not understand.> Came the voice of the Andalite into their minds, <How does one get on a lamb...they're rather small creatures. And what does this have to do with Logan?> The Andalite's stalks swept to Marco as he spoke, his main hues remaining focused on their new recruit.
"It's an expression, Ax. You watch all that TV, and don't see any gangster films?" Marco rolled his eyes and then looked to Logan, "in the end though, I guess Cassie's right, it's up to you.

Choices, choices. She honestly didn't know what to choose. Barn? Or with someone she didn't even know? She hesitated and she looked down at the ground, speaking quietly, dangling her feet back and forth more quickly,
"I choose....the barn...easier for me...and for all of you."She looked at each individual piece of hay on the ground nervously. She hated troubling people. Plus, it would be easier to go back home.
Jake nodded and looked at everyone else, "I suppose that it is her decision. Now...how can we truly trust you? After all, you dad is a human-Controller, isn't he?"Human-Controller?What is that? Logan looked nervously around and then back at the ground, "What....is that?"Rachel sighed, shaking her head,"This girl really doesn't know anything, does she?" [/blockquote]

Marco gave a nod, glad that Cassie had been chosen over him. He really didn’t want some strange girl staying with him, but then again, he knew he would have to spend a fair amount of time with her anyway. At Rachel’s remark, the short boy rolled his eyes, ”Yeah, Xena. Because while she was down in the Yeerk Pool, she should of thought to ask the nearest Hork-Bajir, ‘Excuse me, what exactly happens when those slugs go in your ear?’”
Cassie stifled a laugh at Marco’s remark, able to very clearly visualize it. She knew this wasn’t a time for laughter, though. They were in the middle of a very serious conversation. Looking to the Loga, she offered a kind smile, ”Alright. I’ll get you some blankets and a pillow once we’re done here…you can sleep in the loft.”
Ax was the next to speak, his reply meant to explain things to the girl, <I, am an Andalite.> He began, figuring it was best to first inform her that he was not the bad guy, <It was my brother, Elfangor, who brought the Escafil device to earth. He who gave my friends the power to morph. And that is a power they have passed on to you.> He gave this information a moment to sink in before continuing, <What you saw beneath the town was called the Yeerk Pool. It is where Yeerks go to feed of the Kandrona rays that keep them alive. Yeerks are, for lack of a better term, parasites. They look like large slugs, but when they crawl into your ear, they wrap around your brain and take control. When this happens, you become what’s called a Controller.>
Marco took his turn to speak once more, lofting a brow as he carefully regarded the newcomer, ”I hate to bring it up…but she could know all this already. She could be a Controller. It’s probably a good idea to watch her for three days, just to make sure. Not to mention, she probably wants to go home. We should make sure that doesn’t happen…we’ll have to take shifts watching her.”
Tobias flapped his wings, though he did not take off. <I guess Ax and I take the day shift while you guys are at school.>
”My parents will want me home tonight. They think I’ve been to distant lately, so they made tonight Family Game Night.” Cassie sighed. She hated lying to her parents, and having to be so distant with them. But it was for everyone’s protection, including her mother and father’s. Words . . . 426 Tags . . . Tobias took his usual place in the rafters, ever vigilant for signs of anyone, such as Cassie's parents, that wasn't one of them came peeping around. They couldn't afford to have Ax in his true forme seen by anyone else, else they'd risk exposure and that, they didn't want. But Tobias could see if anyone was coming long before they arrived, so they didn't really have to worry. He was a bit miffed at seeing the golden eagle; not only did he dislike them, but it made him think of David. He couldn't wait until that bird was out of there, and he knew Cassie would make sure not to release the eagle anywhere near his territory.
He was suspicious of the new girl, but he and all of the others had very good reasons to be. The ordeal with David had made them—now that they had the morphing cube—reluctant to recruit new Animorphs, because they didn't know who they could trust. And this girl, Logan, had just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Still, he could sympathise with her; she'd lost her home, and it was a whole lot for her to take in. Before, she'd just been an oblivious human unaware of the threat that Earth now faced, and she didn't yet know about everything.
He started to preen, after all, just sitting here it was the perfect time to oil his feathers. It made him better for flight, and his keen ears were still tuned to the sound of unwanted company. He answered her question easily, <Yeerks are parasites. They enter your ear and wrap themselves around your brain, completely controlling you. Human-Controllers are humans with Yeerks in them.> Not that it explained everything, but it was a start.
And then a thought came to him. It seemed perfect given the situation. They needed to know she was not a Controller, and they also needed to teach her about what the Yeerks were and prepare her just in case. Not that she needed to suffer anymore, but the people he was about to suggest were fine company once you got over the blades. <Guys, there's something else we aren't considering. What about, at least for the three days, the Hork-Bajir valley? I don't think they would mind, and Rachel could bring her food in her eagle morph. I'll watch her, and tell her all she needs to know.> He didn't mention it, but it would be a way to observe her as well.

Marco shifted his gaze to the hawk whose voice menlded with the Andalite's as they spoke about what a Human-Controller was. This had to be freaky for the new girl. Afterall, who wouldn't think they were nuts hearing a blue centaur with a scorpion tale and a hawn talking in their mind? Yeah, somtimes Marco was pretty sure it was him who was nuts for having gotten so used to it. There were still times that he hoped like mad this was all just some dillusion and he was really a mad man locked in some asylum. "Yeah, what they said." Came his own reply to the question the girl had posed. He didn't have anything new to add afterall.
He vaguely remembered having seen this girl at school, and thinking she was pretty weird with the way she dressed. Not that he had any room to talk about weird. He was a boy who could turn into a zoo, and what was weirder than that? He smirked as he thought these things, shiaking his head in mild amusement. Then Tobias' suggestion brought him out of his silence, "Great idea there, Bird-boy. We'll just take the girl, who already probably thinks she's snapped, and probably thinks she's about to get eaten by a kid turned tiger, no offence, Jake, and drop her into a valley full of walking salad shooters. That ought to ease her mind."
Sure, he was being sarcastic, but if he weren't, they'd all think something was wrong with him. And he was half serious, as always. She'd probably been surrounded by Hork-Bajir in the Yeerk Pool. And despite their peaceful nature when free, they were still walking weapons. He didn't think that surrounding her with them once again would do anything to help her trust them.
Cassie heard Tobias' suggestion, and gave a small nod, moving to a cage where a raccoon was located to give it some food laced with its medication. "That sounds like a good idea, actually. We'd have to get her a bird morph to get her up there...unless we feel like taking a few days off from school to hike up the mountains."
Looking around to see what was available, she tried to avoid laying eyes on the golden eagle. That had been David's chosen morph for flight, afterall. Other than the large raptor, there were some smaller ones, such as a kestral, which was dwarfed by most other birds of prey. Her hues next landed on a vulture, probably repulsive to anyone but her, who found most all animals had some sort of beauty. The next bird her gaze flitted to was a sleepy screech owl. Again her eyes deliberately avoided the eagle as she said to their new recruit, "See anything you like?"
Aximili kept his main eyes focused on Logan, every ready to launch his tail toward her, should the need arise. His stalks shifted to Tobias as he spoke out in their minds, reminding them of the free colony of Hork-Bajir. It was true that that was an option. He believed his shorm had a decent idea there. "That might work...then the Hork-Bajir could help to keep her from running...>
The Andalite listened to Marco's protest, and gave a shrug, a gesture he had picked up from his human friends, one that looked unnatural coming from him in his natural state. <But the Hork-Bajir are free...they would not harm her.>

cause the last time you saw meis still burned in the back of your mind------------------------------ you gave me roses and i left them there to die
Logan could feel her brain overloading from the information. It wasn't much, but just surprising. It was scary too. After all, her father was one of those things...right? Well, why would he bring her to that pool? This is so much...Why am I even her? When Cassie spoke to her about getting a bird form, she noticed that she was avoiding the golden eagle. Of course, there had to be something behind it. What was it? Then, her eyes lingered to the sleepy snowy owl and she smiled. Although this thing ate rats, it was pretty. She liked it. Almost in a child-like manner, she pointed at the snowy owl,"That one...but....how do I do this?"
Any normal person would be shocked from all of this information and probably thinking that they were all nuts. Well, of course they were, but so was she. After all, she was someone who had a fascination with rats, which was probably one of the grossest and plague-causing animals in the world. Now that she was thinking about rats, her eyes widened. Her rat was back at home. She had to get it. She started getting nervous and played with her fingers, picking at the skin."I...need to go home. Just for a while. Just to feed my rat..."
She needed to get home. Who knew what her dad was doing to the rat. After all, he hated the thing. But, after all, it was her only friend. She looked down at the ground, knowing already what they were going to say. No, she couldn't. Blah Blah Blah. Being parents."Please, just let me go. I...I need him to live."
-----------------------------------------------------------
Jake didn't know what to say. To prevent a girl from carrying for her rat was cruel. But...after all, she was being looked for. She couldn't run free. She would be found. He glanced at the others and then spoke, "so you'd want to risk your life for your pet? Don't worry about him...I'm sure someone will look after him for you." He wasn't sure about that, but he wanted to make the girl feel better. After all, he didn't know how he would feel with her situation.

Cassie smiled at the girl, Logan, as she childishly pointed towards the snowy owl in its cage. It’s not the eagle...maybe this wont go like it did before. Cassie thought as she walked over to the cage and gently opened the cage, earning a small sleepy hoot from the owl. It’s okay girl, we’ll let you sleep in a few minutes.
Cassie lifted the bird from its perch and let it on her arm gently. When the owl didn’t screech in pain or something like it she knew that her wing wasn’t hurt as it had been. She walked back over to the bales of hay and sat down between Rachel and Jake. Kindly grinning at the girl as she sat the snowy owl on her lap, letting it sit comfortably on her overalls. She glanced around at the group of her friends, and this new girl sitting there. Part of her was terrified that her ease to trust would be a mistake again...another part of her just told her to trust her, give her a chance like she would anyone. Mentally she sighed and unknowingly petted the owls soft feathers. She’s a very good flyer, or at least she normally is. Cassie pointed to the wing that still had a splint holding it in place, It’s probably about time to take that off though... She put the thought to memory and would ask her dad later about the owl. She’s a good choice though, especially for night flights. Slowly but surely Cassie couldn’t help but warm up to Logan. She was quiet so far and didn’t remind her one bit about David...other than the next comment about rats. It made Cassie feel sad that there was a pet at the house, and part of her wanted to help. Though another part knew that Jake or someone wouldn’t like the idea forming in Cassie’s mind. It was just her, wanting to help the girl and the animal. Controllers didn’t normally think about animals, unless they thought the animal was one of the animorphs. So they wouldn’t feed the poor animal. She cringed though when a picture of David popped into her mind as he became a rat forever. Cassie’s best judgment told her to not even think of it, but another part of her, the nature lover, the pet person opened her mouth and helped her get the courage to speak. There...there could be a way, one of us could do it. They are probably looking for weird animal movements, but if one of us morphed as say a bird of prey that went after rats...I could do it, maybe even Tobias. We could get him for Logan... Cassie said quietly and glanced up at her friends, she knew she would volunteer to do it, no matter what. It was an animal and it didn’t deserve to die just because it’s owner was gone...and a bird of prey going after a rat wouldn’t be to odd. Logan...where do you keep the rat? Is it near a window or somewhere close to a window? Is your window ever open?? Cassie asked, trying to not look at the others. They probably will shut the idea down...but I gotta try. Part, of her didn't trust Logan yet but she related to her in her worry for an animal. Tobias used his beak to collect oil from the base of his tail where the uropygial gland was, and using that oil to clean his feathers. This was called preening, and it made him more aerodynamic and removed mites and other small, annoying critters. The Yeerks weren't the only parasites he had to worry about on Earth. Not only that, but it being winter, hunting was difficult and in fact he hadn't been able to get his meal today. Not that he'd reveal this—he, after all, didn't want them to begin worrying about him. He was a bird of prey albeit with his own human intelligence in addition to the instincts of a bird, and he had resigned himself to that fact.
The subject of birds came up. Eager to see what bird she chose, he stopped preening and fixed his forever-intense hawk gaze upon her. Was she going to choose the eagle? He hoped not. He had one more reason to hate it now—that thing reminded him of David. Luckily, she chose the owl. <Yeah, that's a good choice. Owls are silent fliers, and they have incredible night vision,> he added. While he wasn't fond of owls for his own reasons, they were useful for night flight. Tobias had acquired one a while back—albeit a little reluctantly—for this reason. <You should acquire the kestral as well, for night flight,> he suggested. <It might be small, and it's a really fast fllier. It's not as fast as the peregrine, but it's a perfect for the daytime. Or if you aren't grossed out by the thought, I suggest the vulture. Not only do they have a better sense of smell than your usual bird, but they have really sharp beaks and talons. Oh, and they are amazing fliers. Do not get the golden eagle. They're big and burdensome and did you know that they sometimes prey on fawns?>
Mention of a rat made him hungry, but he quickly perished the thought. It also made him think of Dude. He wondered what had become of his cat. He probably became a stray. After all, his uncle never cared for the cat. Hopefully he'd found a home by now. <If you want someone to get a rat, I'd be the best choice,> he said, ruffling his feathers proudly as he bragged, <After all, I'm good at grabbing rats by now. Don't worry, I won't eat him. He'll be scared, but unharmed. If your window isn't open, though, that'll be a problem.> It was bitter irony that they'd trapped David as a rat, and that the girl had a rat.
Rats and birds. Both things Tobias knew a lot about. He really hoped that she would take his advice, and acquire the owl and either the kestral or the vulture. He didn't want to see that eagle again, and he knew the others didn't either.

((OOC: Just to make a quick point...and not trying to nit-pick...but...being something of an animal enthusiast [which is what lead me to love Animorphs in the first place] I should point out that it's a screech owl. Snowy owls aren't native to California. ^_^;; Oh! And did they use the cube on her yet? I was thinking probably so...but I didn't know for sure what you guys were thinking.)) Marco watched with interest as the girl, Logan, considered her options. Would she go for the obvious power morph? That was what David had done. They had been stupid not to see from day one how things would end up. All the kid had cared about was power. He shook his head to clear it of the thought, then looked back to their newest recruit. His dark gaze remained focused on her, calculating, trying to determine if she could be trusted. She selected the owl. A very good choice for night travel, as he knew having a morph of the great horned variety himself, not so great for inconspicuous day flight. The screech owl was smaller than his own owl morph, which meant she probably hadn't picked it for power. That was a good sign, in his opinion.
The comedic boy gave a small nod of approvial as Cassie and Tobias touted the benefits of the owl, with the hawk going on to explain that she should aquire one of the day morphs as well, "Way to persuade her against the golden, Bird-Boy. Now she'll definitely not want it." He rolled his eyes, thinking that if there was any bit of this girl that liked the thrill of power, she'd be all over that eagle.
At the plan on saving the rat, he had to stop to think. It could work, but only if the window was open. And what were the odds of that? "Or does your dad have a job? One of us could morph you and go in while he's at work to get the rat. I'd recommend Ax, cause if he get's caught, he can demorph without giving us away. Of course, we'd need your permission..."
He looked around to see if anyone would agree with his idea. He didn't really care if they got the rodent at all. Unlike Jake, Tobias, and Cassie, he'd never had a pet, so he didn't have that bit of sympathy. And to him, what mattered was staying alive, and going on some stupid mission to get a pet from this girl's house, a lousy rat at that, would only endanger their safety.
Rachel leaned back on her hay bale, eying the girl suspiciously. She didn't know what to think anymore. The girl hadn't gone after the power morph, which in all honesty, the blond probably would have. She wouldn't admit that to the rest of the group, though. She hated to think she was similar to David in any way.
When Tobias began explaining the various benefits of the different birds, she smiled up at him, a small gesture that no one was supposed to notice except the raptor. Her focus then shifted back to their newest arrival as the topic shifted to her pet rat. Well, she didn't have a pet, but she knew how important such things could be. Hearing Cassie and Tobias' plan, she flipped her hair, "I'm in. And if any of us are getting the rat, I think it should be Tobias. He's got the most experience, and could grab it without killing it."
Her gaze shifted to Marco as he revealed his own plan for the rat rescue. That could work too. She'd never been much of a strategist herself. She was more of a charge in and get things done kind of girl. So her intense blue eyes shifted once more, this time lighting on Jake, "It's up to you, cousin."
